Vines don't recognise Statutory holidays (or any other holiday for that matter!) so whilst some of you may be relaxing enjoying the sun of Central Otago the vines just keep growing! This means it is a busy time in the vineyard for Fiona and her team. The grapes have finished flowering and the fruit set is looking good. Between now and mid-February when veraison occurs (the point when the fruit starts to ripen and change colour) we will be busy with canopy management ensuring that the canopy stays open so the grapes have sunlight which aids ripening and boosts airflow to minimise the risk of disease. In this regard we have just done our first trim in the vineyard.
